Fathers and the Blessing of Fatherhood
Today we celebrate fathers and the blessing of fatherhood. I personally celebrate all of our dads and my prayer today for the men of God who have families is that God continues to shine upon you with strength, wisdom, guidance, and agape love for you and yours. You’ve been there for your spouses and your families and didn’t stop being the loving father you are when the going got tough. Sometimes you’ve had to give tough love but it was because you try to do what’s best for those you genuinely care for and would give your all for them. Recently, at breakfast with my brothers, we were appreciating our father who was tough. He made mistakes, but one thing was without question and that was that he loved his family. For the sons and daughters in a family, the father figure is reassuring that mom and the rest of the family are protected and taken care of. Our Father in heaven many times draws an analogy between earthly fathers and Himself. That in itself is indicative of the father’s role and it’s importance to the family unit. Both father and mother, of course, are needed and we dare not minimize either one’s contribution to the institution of the family. Sometimes parents don’t realize their influence on the children and sometimes the children don’t receive the positive influence of their parents. The more we as fathers should take our role as protector, provider, nourisher, and upholder very seriously. That is the definition of the word father from the Greek word pater. The role of father and mother in the family gives us an idea of how we view our spiritual Father as I said earlier, our spiritual Father sometimes draws an analogy between the natural and spiritual families. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children; how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him,” Lk. 11:13 (KJV). Have a blessed Father’s Day.
