In this Pastor’s Pen I just want to speak to what I term the vanishing virtues in this generation, 3 in particular. Scriptures warn us concerning the spirit of the end times that are warning signs that He, the Lord Jesus Christ, is soon to return. Matthew 24:12 (KJV): 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. The love of many shall wax cold because iniquity abounds, it says in this scripture in Matt. 24:12. As the love of many grows cold one of the first of these virtues that I want to mention is respect. Without respect people are reduced to whatever is culturally popular about them whether it is stereotypical, straight out lies, or just whatever the prejudice is that exists at the time. There used to be a respect between children and their parents, but seems to be fading in this generation. Without respect we witness the deterioration of our generation. The second virtue that we see much less of is humility. More and more accepted in our generation is a selfish, self-centered mindset and it is a very destructive mindset to have since it considers only what it wants above what others want. It’s that me, myself, and I mentality. A little humble pie would do a lot of good right about now. Finally, the third virtue that seems to be vanishing in our times is honor. Honor, according to Webster’s New World Dictionary, means high regard or respect. A good reputation. Adherence to principles considered right, integrity. Chastity. High rank, distinction. A title of certain officials, such as judges. Something done or given as a token. A source of respect and fame. First and foremost, that honor, respect, and humility must be to our God, and prayerfully restored to our generation.

In the message today I’m continuing with pt. 2 of a message that we shared on Mother’s Day titled “It Starts at Home.” In that message I looked at scriptures throughout the Bible on the family. First and foremost, the institution of the family was God’s idea. “You were united to your wife by the Lord. In God’s wise plan, when you married, the two of you became one person in his sight. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. Therefore, guard your passions! Keep faith with the wife of your youth. For the Lord, the God of Israel, says he hates divorce and cruel men. Therefore, control your passions – let there be no divorcing of your wives,” Malachi 2:15, 16 (The Living Bible). It all starts at home. We first are introduced to God at home, at least I think most of us are, and I know some people find God outside of their homes, if theirs is not a Christian household. God certainly wants godly seed from the marriage relationship, training the children from that union in the knowledge of the Lord . Deuteronomy 6:1–7 (KJV): Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: 2 That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. The enemy wants Christians out of his way. He really would like to get us on to Heaven with the next group there, but if he fails at that, then he tries to deceive and get us out of faith. One of the ways he does that is by deceiving men into attributing his works to God. Many people, including some Christians, think that God puts sickness on them, killed their loved ones, put hardships on them, cause poverty in their lives, made them homeless, destroyed their marriages, and so-on and so-on. After the Brantley county fires it’s been rumored that several victims of the fires were told that their insurance would not pay out on their situation because the fires were an act of God. Oh? So, God burned down those people’s homes, destroyed their property, cause some to be homeless, caused financial hardship on these families, etc. One of my sayings is, “Chapter and verse.” The Bible reads in John 10:10 (KJV): 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. It’s not the Lord that’s causing the pain and hurt in our lives. The trick of the enemy in deceiving is to cause men to doubt God, like many do in our generation, and not have faith in God and His Word. If he can get men to doubt in the living God, and not believe in the reality of Satan, then the enemy works through the sense realm to cause anger, hate, animosity, a selfish and self-centered mindset, because ultimately Satan wants worship for himself because of his pride, that which caused his fall, Is. 14:13 (KJV). We are reminded throughout scripture that we are in a spiritual warfare and that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Therefore, God’s Word reveals to us that in order for us to fight a spiritual warfare we need spiritual weapons. Ephesians 6:10–18 (KJV): 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. When we pray, we pray believing God, in faith, that whatever God says we can have, then we can have it, in Jesus name. We can’t do it in our flesh, won’t do it without faith, and God won’t do what we can do, and we can’t do what God can do, therefore we must trust in the Lord with all of our hearts all to the glory of God. In this age of lies, deceit, manipulation, power hunger, greed, war, murder, sex abuse, and the like, the subject of agape love can seem like an out-of-place subject, when, in fact, because of the things just mentioned, it is the exact subject we need to have conversation about. Because the hearts of men have drifted so far from his Creator, the things of God are foolishness to him, and the Bible declares in 1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV): 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. All that is spiritual, righteous, within the kingdom of God offends the flesh since these things are spiritually discerned . 1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV): 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. These scriptures are clear warnings, alerts, alarms to all that when God’s law offends them it is a sign that they have fallen far away from the God of all creation. Agape is spiritual and only the spiritually minded can grasp the agape of God. Our faith in God and His Word opens our eyes to His love. His love will change our lives when received in our hearts, not through the flesh. The flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8 (KJV): 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. It’s only by faith will men be enlightened by the Word of God . Hebrews 11:6–7 (KJV): 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. A child trusts his parents because that child’s heart is innocent and loves his parents and believes that his parents love him. Unless that parent does something that convinces that child to the contrary, that child assumes that everything is alright in their little world. That’s how love does us, and I’m not just talking about the agape love from God, but love period, assures, comforts, sees the best in others and wants the best for others, but especially the agape love of God. Even these tough guys, who no one thinks loves anything or anybody, want to be loved. They may not say it, but they want others to be around to celebrate their accomplishments with them. They want others to appreciate their achievements. If they find themselves in trouble, who is it that they call on when they want someone to understand their plight? Mama. Why? Because they know if there’s one person that will understand them, it’s the person that brought them into this world. We were created for love. Love heals. Negative emotions will affect our bodies with sickness, ailments, as well as affect us mentally. Being on the receiving end of love is lifechanging, and to love is also lifechanging. God’s love will transform the life of the recipient. It will foster a love and respect for the Giver, and a heart to see others receive that love. One of the saddest things in this life is to meet someone who is malnourished in love and has not been the recipient, or feel like they are loved. My mind can’t even wrap around that, but what it does to people when they don’t think that anybody loves them is that person can become suspect of everyone else wanting to do them harm and not trusting anyone anymore. That is a way that I would not want to navigate life especially when there is an awesome God who loves us unconditionally every day and proves it every day. In His Service, Pastor Jeffery A. The creation groans for the restoration of all things that have been affected by the sin of the first man and the first woman. Though the earth was not the cause of the fall, it was cursed as well. Because of sin death entered the earth separating men from God’s best for their lives. Poverty, sickness, and lack have never been the plan of God for mankind. Man was created in the image and likeness of God, and should never accept anything less than what God says, and God said in Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV): 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Notice that God gave man dominion over fish, fowl, cattle, all the earth, and over creeping things. Nowhere in Gen. 1:26, 27, does it say man shall have dominion over other men. Man was created in the image and likeness of God, and sin keeps us separated from God’s best and I know that, for me, I hunger and thirst after my God and am looking forward to the full restoration and completion of our redemption, and until then I refuse to listen to the enemies of my soul including evil and wickedness in high places such as governments, whether local or nationally. Habakkuk 1:4 (KJV): 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. It will fail. Righteousness will win over darkness. The God-image will not let wicked people, wicked rulers, nor wicked governments prevail. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV): 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Today is a very special day as we celebrate Mothers and the gift they are to all mankind. Mothers shape this world since she is the first to mold and shape new lives after they have been birth into this world, a world of good and evil, right and wrong, darkness and light. Mothers are the first to teach us the difference between these as well as nourishing us, nurturing us, providing for us, loving us, protecting us, and mothering us by performing those duties that only a Mother can. She’s also a part of that powerful God established institution called the family. God ordained the family for many reasons, but one of the greatest purposes for the institution of marriage is to raise up godly seed unto the Lord. Malachi 2:15 (KJV): 5 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. It all starts at home. Home is where we as parents are to be the example and teach our children concerning the things of God. Mom turns the house into a home, and she creates the atmosphere by which the family can excel and grow because of her love. Dad is the protector, nourisher, provider, and upholder. The children are to reverence and honor their parents for it is the first commandment with the promise of longevity. We give a shout out to all of our Moms. They shape our world. Thank God for families. Dad, sister, brother, husband, wife, we celebrate with Mom today and our prayer is God keep our Moms and the institution of the family. In His Service, Pastor Jeffery A. The enemy tries to blind the minds of men from the truth of the gospel. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16 (KJV): 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Satan is working through deception, delusions, and by any wicked means necessary, to keep men from the revelation of Christ and His plans for man. 2 Corinthians 4:3–4 (KJV): 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. The enemy deceives not only non-Christians, but Christians as well. The Word of God reveals that there will be great delusion in the last days. Look around you. Satan’s not the only one who is a liar. 1 John 4:1–3 (KJV): Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. That spirit of antichrist is already raising its head all across this land. The Word reveals to us in 2 Thess. 2:9-12 that because men would reject the truth and believe a lie that God would allow strong delusion in the end times. We’re in the days now where we’re seeing the stage is being set and even already the great delusion has begun and men would believe a lie before they believe the truth. Strength is sometimes in the things that don’t look strong. The Word reveals that the preaching of the cross is foolishness to them that are perishing, but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God. The Lord chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. Paul said that he would take pleasure in his infirmities, necessities, and distresses for Christ’s sake, for when he’s weak in human strength, then he’s strong. Paul is saying that when he’s weak in his flesh, then he’s strong spiritually. God is glorified when His saints trust Him. We look for strength in the things we see when real strength is in the things we do not see. The most powerful force on this earth is agape love. Isaiah 53 is the greatest demonstration of the greatest force this side of glory, love that is so beyond human comprehension it must be of a higher supreme Being, a God, the God, Jehovah, Yeshuah, Yaw-weh. A love that is divine, proof that there is a God in heaven, the God of the Bible. No greater power on earth than the love of God. Love redeems, not condemns, is selfless, not selfish, patient, not impatient, builds up, not tears down, restores, not rejects, heals, not kills, suffereth long, and is kind, envieth not, vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. The Word of God teaches us to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might, not our might, but His might. The Apostle Paul learned that when he was weak in human strength, then he was strong in divine strength. Putting on the whole armor of God is girding ourselves up in divine strength. God’s ways are not our ways. The manner in which the human nature would handle things is opposite of the Spirit of God and why we cannot look within our flesh to do right by God. John 6:63 (KJV): 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Spirit strong is being strong in the Lord, His Spirit, and in His Word. Romans 7:18 (KJV): 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
