Reflecting Back On That Terrible Moment
As our nation commemorates the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center it’s a stark reminder of devious actions that others, who do not agree with what America stands for, are willing to go to in order to express their disdain. These persons were willing to sacrifice their own lives along with approx. 3,000 others in order to do so. To this day I can easily remember what I was doing on that day since First Lady and my anniversary is on 9/10 and I always take that day off to celebrate our anniversary. On 9/11/01, the day after our anniversary, I woke up that morning and turned on the tv to watch CNN and to my surprise the first plane had already hit the first tower. I remember mentioning to my wife that this was mighty suspect that a passenger plane had went that far off flight pattern to hit one of the twin towers, but I was a bit reserved to say that it was a terrorist attack. But when the second plane hit the second tower I was pretty sure at that point that this was a terrorist attack. Reflecting back on that terrible moment though I vividly remember taking a mental note of how it seemed to bring Americans together in some unity in a determination to find and punish those involved in the planning and carrying out of the attacks. It’s amazing how we’ll come together in a horrific tragedy such as what occurred on 9/11 but as soon as things calm down we go right back to our prejudices, and divisions. When those terrorist struck those towers they didn’t take the time to see how many Republicans or Democrats were in those towers. They wanted to hit at the symbol of American culture, not caring about how many white people, black people, Asian people, Hispanic people, or any of that, but we seem to not be able to see for ourselves that we are the “United States of America.” Would to God that citizens of this country take notice of God’s Word concerning a house divided. “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand,” Matthew 12:25 (KJV).
