Pastor’s Pen for Sunday, 10-25-26
The days are upon us spoken of in the Bible when many will depart from the faith. Before someone can depart from something, they have to have been a part of something first, therefore those departing from the faith have had to been part of the faith before. Either this scripture speaks to mankind as a whole, or to the individual, or to both. I happen to believe that it’s speaking to both. Now, scripture such as 2 Tim. 3:5 should make all of us sit up straight and pay attention. For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them],” 2 Tim. 3: 5 (Amplified Bible). Men will have a form of godliness, but they don’t allow the power of the Word, and the Holy Spirit, to change their character. As powerful as the Word and the Holy Spirit is, they cannot change the heart filled with doubt and unbelief, resulting in one devoid of spiritual life, but drying up spiritually and falling away from God. Mark 6:1–6 (KJV): And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. In these last days it will be even worse, since not only will men depart from the faith, but they will also believe a lie. Come Lord Jesus.
