Pastor’s Pen for Sunday, 4-12-26
This spiritual warfare that we as Christians find ourselves in reveals the challenges we face to walk by faith and not be governed by the sense realm. First of all, the Bible reveals that there is a constant battle between the spirit of man yielded to the Holy Spirit, and our flesh, Gal. 5:16-18. Then there’s the world’s influence that will derail the faith of old, young, and everyone in between, that God warns us about in 1 Jn. 2:15-17. Christians do whatever they do as unto the Lord. We do whatever we do from the core of our being, from the heart, and not out of our emotions, or what it looks like, how we feel, what we’ve heard, and certainly not by what folk are saying about us, but we have learned how to walk by faith and not by sight. That means we’re governed by the revelation of God’s Word, and not by the sense realm. Jesus’s example demonstrates this principle of faith which worketh by love. We cannot please God in the flesh and without faith it’s impossible to please Him. Jesus humbled Himself in obedience to the Father even unto the death of the cross. Obviously, it was a spiritual battle between His flesh and His spirit man as we see in the Garden of Gethsemane. Luke 22:44 (KJV): 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. The way Jesus coped
Is found a couple of verses before, Luke 22:42 (KJV): 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Jesus’s heart was to do the will of the Father. Priority for the Christian is that His will be done, not our will, but thine be done.
