Pastor’s Pen for Sunday, 5-31-26
In this age of lies, deceit, manipulation, power hunger, greed, war, murder, sex abuse, and the like, the subject of agape love can seem like an out-of-place subject, when, in fact, because of the things just mentioned, it is the exact subject we need to have conversation about. Because the hearts of men have drifted so far from his Creator, the things of God are foolishness to him, and the Bible declares in 1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV): 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. All that is spiritual, righteous, within the kingdom of God offends the flesh since these things are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV): 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. These scriptures are clear warnings, alerts, alarms to all that when God’s law offends them it is a sign that they have fallen far away from the God of all creation. Agape is spiritual and only the spiritually minded can grasp the agape of God. Our faith in God and His Word opens our eyes to His love. His love will change our lives when received in our hearts, not through the flesh. The flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8 (KJV): 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. It’s only by faith will men be enlightened by the Word of God. Hebrews 11:6–7 (KJV): 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
